Yes. I have seen a snake swimming in the canal.

Honestly.

And an adder on Cannock Chase.
yes I have seen one 3 times, twice at Centre Parcs in Elvden Forest and once in a country park in NW London, it was by a lake
I've seen adders in Alice Holt Forest in Surrey, and grass snakes. I've never seen a smooth snake, though. Apparently, they're quite rare.

has any been spotted oop north?
Depends a lot on where you are. They are common on heathland, particularly in the West Country. Here in south Cambridgeshire I only see one or two a year, always grass snakes.

you get everything down south!!
I definitely saw an adder some years ago - it was at a place called the Badger's Holt in South Devon (strangely named, because badgers live in a sett and otters in a holt)!
Yes sambro, it's true we do get everything down south. In Dorset we are lucky enough to have all six reptiles on our heaths.

Adder, Grass and Smooth Snake. Slow Worm. Common and Sand Lizard...and I have yet to see just one of them!
There are plenty in Lincolnshire sambro, have seen adders and grass snakes. g
I have seen a grass snake in Devon and some lizzards and slow worms.
Yes sambro
Adders, grass snakes and slow worms on the North Yorks Moors
I had 2 grass snakes swimming in my fish pond the summer before last, I couldn't believe what I was seeing, unfortunately they ate all the fish, I have also seen a few Adders this summer, one of which bit one of my dogs almost killing him, he was on a drip for 5 hours at the vets.
