Flock or colony ?

It depends on the species of bird. It can also depend on whether they're in the air or roosting. http://www.rspb.org.uk/birds/advice/collectivenouns/birds.asp

As the above answer has indicated, there are different names for different groups of birds, eg, a group of Owls is call ed a 'Parliament', because they have that 'wise' look. i'll leave it there fot the moment
Sorry heathfield, must have been typing at the same time, good link.
Rookery?
The term I'v usually seen used a lot re birds is gregarious
A sorrority? I've seen some interesting websites out there on the subject.
a parliament of owls, a murder of crows, a gaggle of geese etc, what is it with collective nouns anyway? it all seems a bit unnessecery when you could just say some owls, crows, whatever
...and why differentiate between each bird? Just call them all ' those things wot fly'.
Or better still, you could just grunt and point.....
