This morning I placed an order online for some athlete's foot cream and had to sign a disclaimer to say I was over 18 - order accepted and confirmed by email, followed shortly by another email telling me they have had to cancel and refund as they are not allowed to sell it to anyone over 60!

At your age, they probably think you'll confuse it with your toothpaste, Lankers. You know it makes sense ;o)

Not a trust issue, there are some daft guidelines for products for the over 60s - thrush treatment and those for cystitis being others.
Blimey, lankeela, never heard of that before.
Maybe the powers that be think over 60s are more likely to have diabetes and the foot problems that come with it. Would the staff in Boots ask you the same question about age?

Lynne, any reasons given for that?
not heard of that, ridiculous rule..

Or even worst, Primula cheese spread.
This has been going on for years.

This reply is regarding thrust treatment but gives a clue.

//unfortunately it's not licensed for sale to anyone over the age of 60. All medicines behind the counter have a license and cannot be sold for other uses. Some have age limits on them such as children's chesty cough medicine because of the active ingredient. I believe the reason it cannot be supplied to someone over the age of 60 is because it is less likely you will suffer from thrush and there may be another reason as to why you are suffering with the symptoms. Massive pain for all involved.//

Ah, this is in CB.
"Thrust" treatment Mamya?

I'm all ears..............
* Thrush
I've had this happen to me in the pharmacy......I now say I'm fifty nine... not sure how much longer I'll get away with it.... :-(
I was refused two packets of neurogenic cold and flu in Boots because of the ingredients. I am over 70 and was told I might use the pills illegally!
its simple, when I buy stuff like that online I lie about my age.
Timewarp and thrusts spring to mind.

Was seeing my GP just before xmas, student gp attending, student wanted to prescribe something (sorry, forgotten what - painkiller I think) GP said no as I'm close to 60 (sob) and apparently kidney problems are the first to show in over-60's on various types of medications.
i am well over 60 and my GP doesn't seem to mind prescribing all manner of painkillers..
its a balance thing emmie....sometimes there are no 100% right prescription choices, just least bad ones.
perhaps, but they gave me a shedload of paracetamol a few months back, i didn't query it, i had told them that i was in pain much of the time, and that is what they did.
Perhaps it's because there are so few athletes over 60 :0)
I recently tried to give blood & was told I'm too old. Is 'old' blood different than 'young' blood?
I have never been asked my age when buying anything on-line.
