My car insurance is up for renewal this month, and it seems a bit high.

Can anyone personally recommend a comparison website, at they have dealt with please ?

Mi key, if you're happy with your present one, ring them and ask for a better price. I did that today and got £30 off
I always get confused
I tend to go with the meerkats or go compare - generally they give me the best quotes

Thanks Psybbo, but this years renewal is now £749, so I will be looking for a lot more than £30 off !

Its too late now, but I will give them a ring tomorrow morning.
I use all of the major comparison sites and check with the insurance brokers that don't use comparison sites such as Direct Line.

Bit of a faff but worth it. As Psybbo suggests, when you are armed with the competitors' best prices call your current insurance company and see if they will at least match the cheapest.

Excellent guide here:

I got a quote that I thought was to big so I skimmed Confused and got a cheaper price for a significantly enhanced package from my original company so I bought it there.

£749, that's steep for a Fiesta.
I'm 64, I pay less than £300 each for a BMW 320, and a 155mph VRS Estate.
Both with LV.
What did you pay last year?
Why is it so expensive? Do you have points?
Type of job and where you live has more effect on the cost of insurance than points.
Didn't know that.

I don't have any points but I did have 2 accidents in 2011, one my fault and the other not.

I have a quick look on the meercats site and most quotes are coming out at about £400 !

But because of work commitments, I will have to leave this to next week, when I have more time. My present cover doesn't end until 28-08-2015, so there is plenty of time !
As long as it's in place by the 28th. Gives you more time to shop around.
What do you put for your job, Mikey? If you don't do a lot of mileage over the year that will help reduce the cost.
Hi Mikey, I work one against one against the other regards price, I have posted regards this before but had some comments?? do you do under 12000 an year? If so state it, is the car garaged / on your drive? state it, how many drivers? if the OH Drives, state it, some have now jumped on the wagon by asking what time you start work, they will be asking what shoes & shirt you wear next, the age of your car, does the car have an additional alarm? if so state it, what do you value your car? your location, is it in Swansea? if so, is it a high risk area? these are all cop outs for the robbing ***, you have a month to look, my answer Mikey, keep searching.

Thanks TWR....I don't want to give any more personal details away as this site is full of Trolls these days !

But I understand what you are saying...once again thanks !
I do understand that Mikey, I used to be very loyal to my Insurance Comp, them days are gone, good luck with your search, it may get boaring looking around, but you will win.
I like Go Compare. I find their website really concise. I have used them many times for car and house insurance and if you use the code that you get from their quote, you get a discount
Try Aviva - you might be pleasantly surprised.

Particularly good if you have other insurances with them, such as house or life.
Give Chris Knott insurance a try, mikey. They easily beat the comparison sites for me ( this year ). Worth a try.
