Threre's a big doggy shaped hole in our house. I'd noticed over the last few days that Max seemed a bit wobbley but this morning he really struggled to stand I had to lift him into the car. He didn't want to walk and when he did it was a struggle, so I knew like it or not it was time. I stayed with him to the end while Trish waited in the car. She's in tears and I'm not much better I'd forgotten just how upsetting it is when your fury friend goes

Saddened to hear your news. We know Max was a well loved dog and as long as you keep him in your heart he will always be with you. Please don't change your avatar he was a lovely lad and we'd miss seeing his handsome face when you post.
Oh Paddy, sorry to hear your news, how sad xx
Two of my dog walking friends facing the same thing this week and I miss a GSD girl who was smarter than us. No easy way except the balm of time. Feel for you paddywak
Why was he so angry ?
So sorry paddywak, I was in tears for a couple of days when my old cat died, and I could still fill up thinking of him. You've saved Max from further pain and suffering, you did your best. It's hard to lose the loyalty and love of your pet.

Well,Trish is sat knitting (still get a little sob every now and then) I'm watching the footie with my laptop on my knee as usual this time of night but it's not the same without my hairy foot warmer.
Just seen this paddywak .So sorry to hear the sad news about Max .
They leave huge paw prints on your heart :(

So sorry to hear this sad news. (((((HUG)))))
Just popped back to say hope you are ok this morning as I always found that getting up was hardest as so much of the early routine involves our furry friends...
So sorry to hear of your loss. Thank you for making that hardest choice and not letting your boy suffer the indignity of pain....my thoughts and love are with you,
Run free Max

You're right rowan I got up the same time as usual and I'd fetched the papers and had my breakfast before the time I normally got back from walking Max I thnk it will take a while to get used to not having him around. Once again thank you everybody for your support it's nice to know there are so many kind and toughtful people about.
It's a long time since I've had any pets but I can't imagine how difficult it must be having to adapt to a new routine. When so much of your day is measured by walks, feeds and a heavy, hairy lump snoring on your feet, .
it will take time.

Sorry for you loss.
(((((hugs)))))

so sorry :-(
Really sorry to hear of this very sad news. Heartbreaking time for you all.

My thoughts are with you. xx
O marval the tears are tripping me up after reading that. I'm thinking about all mt pets that have gone before me, dogs, cats and rabbits, all loved and so very badly missed.

I hope it brings comfort to paddywak and Trish. I feel so much for you two right now xx
So sorry to hear your sad news. I know exactly how you are feeling! Remember the happy memories and the knowledge that he was loved and loved you. Take care.x

Once again thank you all for your sympathy, the fact that many of you have been in this situation and know what it's like seems to make it more real. Trish has been very quiet today and a couple times I've noticed she was just going to do something an then stop when she realised Max wasn't there, as many of you know it's going long time before things get back to normal and we can start to remember him with out getting upset.
It will take a long time but eventually ease and you have great memories. My lovely GHD died 27 years ago and could never be replaced, Hugs and love to you both. My avator is my daughter's dog
