I am under the impression that keeping rabbits is quite easy - feed them, give them water and keep their hutch clean. Is there anything else that I should be aware of? Thanks

You should have more than one rabbit as they are very social but unless you get them neutered make sure they are of the same sex. Housing should be weather proof in the summer as well as winter, hutches can be like little ovens if not protected from the sun. They should'nt be confined just to their hutch, they need to get out for excercise in a secure pen. They need to be checked regularly to make sure their teeth and claws are not overgrown and in summer especially you need to check their rear ends are clean otherwise they can get fly strike. This is nasty as the maggots will litterally eat away at your rabbit if not treated. They also need regular vaccinations and worming. There is plenty of information on the internet I would read as much as possible so that you are fully prepared.
Don't keep the batteries in too long, even if not used regularly, because they may leak or fur up.
They're best eaten young as they toughen up after a couple of years.
Ugh - jugged hare. One of the worst things I've ever eaten.
Mmmmmmm we are having rabbit for supper tonight :-)
Lucky rabbits foot keyrings are selling well on Ebay at the moment, if you are looking for extra income
They also need space - ideally a rabbitproof run, with timber shapes and drainpipe tunels and things to investigate, as well as their hutch to run into if they feel threatened. They gnaw instinctively and love the wood from fruit trees - apple or pear prunings are greatly appreciated. They tend to always settle on one corner for the toilet - hutch or run. I knew someone who once put a litter tray in the chosen corner which they used happly, making cleaning much easier. Remember they quite like their own poo, as they eat it to recycle any leftovers (honestly), but if their urine stands around for any length of time it gets very pongy even out in the open.
They also appreciate a bit of hay, and some bedding but they tend to chuck the bedding around a lot.
They are also totally amoral and will hump anyhting smaller than themselves, irrespective of sex, which I suppose accounts for their breeding success.
which is why you should not use tongues if you kiss them.
