like cats? I saw a cat yesterday catch a baby squirrel. The baby squirrel was crying out and wriggling, the cat killed it then left it on the grass. They are horrible creatures how can anyone want one as a pet?

I used to have cats but despised how cruel they were in the food chain. Unfortunately it is their nature though humans are much worse of course but should know better! Hmm. Nature has to prep it's own food, whatever it may be....as for having cats for pets....depends on how you feel. Are any animals gentle and not killers? I doubt it, even dogs under pack instinct...

Because they keep the squirrels out my garden.
Question Author
You have a cat to keep squirrels out of your garden? Why are squirrels so detrimental to your garden? All they do is nibble nuts.
I have 4 and that is what cats do, it is nature.
Question Author
Many animals kill because its their nature but we don't keep them as pets.
banker it is obvious as the days go on that you do not actually wish for a debate but more just to tell people they are wrong!
Question Author
I am telling no one they are wrong. I'm asking for opinions on why people keep cats.
I love my two cats. The younger female is a prolific huntress.

Do you also agree with Blood Sports?
2 entirely different scenarios
"Many animals kill because its their nature but we don't keep them as pets."

Aye but cats domesticated themselves. You think we keep cats as pets?

They use and abuse baby.
Perhaps if the OP was more knowledgeable on his subjects (rather than just opining his limited view) his threads might be more palatable.

"All they do is nibble nuts."

Really?

Apparently Mr Boris Johnson alleged his cat was attacked by a fox when he was Mayor of London. Who has priority over the natural hunting instict?
Looks like the Masters of the Hounds are getting their dogs trained up for a new repeal on Fox hunting.' It is part of our countryside heritage 'says Jeremy Hunt.

That's nature, squirrels will also kill and eat young nestling birds.
One's own cat is fine; butter wouldn't melt in it's mouth. It's other people's gardens and plants that they maliciously choose to destroy and to dump on.
Question Author
The reference to squirrels nibbling nuts was supposed to be a joke. I do not need to know about the life cycle of a squire to find it distasteful when I see over-fed 'Fluffy' break its neck with one shake then dump it. Most animals kill for food. Cats seem to relish killing for the sake of it. Domestic cats kill hundreds of thousands of wild birds per year yet people keep them as pets. If dogs did that there would be outrage.
My dog used to kill birds. Quite a lot of them. My cat doesn't, far too lazy!
Some see it as murder others see it as pest control.
Question Author
murder, I think, is going too far...

A good trainer can teach a dog to 'leave' on command. The same trainer will get two paws in the air from a cat.
Murder is actually impossible- 'The killing of a human being by another human being'
