There is one that I recall which never rears its head in nostalgia programmes. It has this kid talking about his mum and dad who are too busy rushing about all the time. After gettting ready for school, he is walking along the street with his mother who is hurried and distracted and they are almost knocked by a car which happens to be driven by his dad who is just as distracted. Anybody remeber this and what was it about?

This was one of my favourites. Great bass line and funky 70's music. It went something like - This is my mum, and my dad. This is my baby sister, and my nan. One day me and mum were out shopping for new shoes, on the way home...(forgotten this bit)........we were almost run over by a car, and do you know who was drivng? My Dad!! We could have all ended up as mincemeat! You tell me how he would he have explained that to my nan?.. Do-do-do do-do-de-do-do do-dedooby-do-do-do-do...nah nah nah nah, noh noh noh noh noh.

Sad or what?

My god, well remembered. I can see it all the more clearly now. Don't they cross one of those 70's road under/over passes?
You could well be right, the camera follows them on their walk home. I also remember the Nan, peeping out from behind the net curtain, "Nan worries when were not at home, Mum worries when we are!"

ok, after a little research, I think I've got the gist of this ad. It was all about finding a safe place to cross. "This is my mum" etc.etc. was followed by a series of warnings - "Don't sit too close to the TV", "Dry yourself properly", they were always telling him to do things that he didn't want to do. Then one day while out buying new shoes Mum tried to make him cross at between parked cars. "and do you know who it was? My Dad! In a new car!"

Quality stuff.

This might sound sad but I have a DVD of these short ads, and from memory I think that one is on it. There are 167 of them so I'm not going to check, but if you're interested, the title of the DVD is "Charley Says". The ads were originally by the Central Office of Information, and the DVD was produced by Network. For nostalgia purposes, I list a few highlights... Charley the safety conscious ginger cat, Jo and Petunia the environmentally unfriendly picnickers, Tufty the squirrel, Kevin Keegan, Rolf Harris, Alvin Stardust, Basil Brush and Jimmy Saville. Mainly set in a 1970s London suburb and in mortal danger of speeding drivers, exploding chip pans and Foot and Mouth disease.
