I guess some people don't want to be defined by their gender, others just want to join quickly to use the site for a one off question. My question would be why does AB find it necessary to ask for gender in the first place.

The thing is if you post on a message board, forum, Q&A site you will get discrimination of all sorts, race, gender, age, religion etc from other users so perhaps some people want to guard themselves against that and being pre-judged for what they are. Trouble is total annonymity is hard if you want to post freely.

Yes, kvalidir. Often things become clear, anyway. Actually, you confuse me sometimes. Always very intelligent, but surprisingly experienced and then on a few posts- the tone, grammar and punctuation of a teenager. I can't work it out! :-)

Usually depends who I'm talking to Pixie and what about. If they're on my 'nice' list I'm more informal and relaxed :), then the 'middlies' get run of the mill helpful type posts, then there are the 'sparring partners' who I address more formally and the very few 'pistols at dawn' crew who I'm super formal with, lol ;-)
