I have had three things delivered by the postman this week (one letter and two parcels) with stickers on saying 'signed for' and I have not been asked to sign for any of them. Do you think I should contact the post office or leave it?

It's Royal Mail you need to contact, not the Post Office, sherrard.
No - when I was in the job quite a few things were sent that looked like they had to be signed for. Unless recorded or registered it's not needed.
Is it the orange sticker that says 'Signed For', but that is called Recorded, sherrard? If yes, it should definitely be be signed for by the recipient; the sender had to pay extra.

Hi both - yes it is the orange sticker that says signed for (and it has a bar code). He zapped the package today with a hand held gizmo but didn't ask me to sign for it.
That was signed for - they don't have the things like some firms, just bar code guns and they do it. He could just as easily zapped it to say you weren't there and it would have been recorded as such.
Perhaps he signs to say he gave them to you.
If you go to the Royal Mail website you can check the tracking number (and after 72 hours actually get an electronic image of the "signature") - if it's not yours then make a fuss.
Just out of interest was this from Amazon?

Hi - one was an ordinary letter from an insurance company and the parcels were car parts from EBay. I will be really annoyed if he has forged my signature - I can only find two of the bar codes as I put the envelope in the bin.
OK, don't believe me - I'm past caring

I do believe you post dog - but why write 'signed for' on the sticker if it isn't? Or does it mean 'signed for' by the postman?
My postman often leaves parcels requiring a signature on the door step.
I'm ok with it ...saves me a trip to the sorting office to collect.
Give the postman a break ...why complain ...
Just a working man doing a crap job for crap pay working for a crap organisation

Sirandyraven - I get that it is a crap job for crap pay, etc but the sender of the stuff has paid extra for the service, could cause bother somewhere along the line with someone losing out if something was taken from your doorstep.
Exactly, the sender has paid extra to know that they'll have proof it's been received. There's no way of actually "tracking" any Recorded post that goes missing, though, hence the massive difference in price between that and Special Delivery, which you can track at 8 different points of its journey and we always recommend at the PO.
This keeps happening where I live. I've complained to the sorting office and also let the sender know so they can reclaim the postage.
I am always grateful to my postman (he is a lovely bloke) for not making me go to the sorting office to get whatever it is. If the article you have ordered is O.K why worry? It might be a different story if there was something missing, but if not I can't see any cause for complaint. I go along with Sir Andy for this.
