if you heat zinc in a clay pot it reacts with the oxygen in the air will the mass of material in the pot go up or down or stay the same, if 8g or zinc reacts with 2 g of oxygen what mass of product will be made

in that case you can't say because more oxygen can be drawn into the pot to react with the zinc and any water vapour in the air might be driven off.
Depends on the temperature, Zinc oxide sublimes above 500C so some of it will be lost.
