New PC. Can you recommend one?

My budget is 1000. I want a PC that can easily manage games and is quite fast. I only need the base unit (tower) and a new flat screen monitor. I don't even need speakers, mouse or keyboard. (Already have these)

So the whole 1000 would be available for the base unit and monitor.

What can I get for my money?

You should be able to get an adequate system for well under that amount of money these days. Up front I'd recommend strongly against getting a Mac, (as it'd be the first answer otherwise), especially for games as most will be incompatible with the Macintosh operating system.

I spent about 500 on parts for a games PC.

Motherboard 120 an Asus sli deluxe.

Ram 100 for 2 x 1GB DDR2 from Crucial.

CPU about 100 for a P4 3GHZ with HT, but board supports dual core CPUs

60 for PCI-E graphics card, but board supports sli cards, either through software or using connectors on more expensive cards.

40 for dual rail PSU

40 for new case.

Apart from the Ram, the parts came from a computer fair. I got the board and CPU as a bundle.

You will find that most suppliers want you to have the whole package and only knock off very little if you do not want the Monitor . keyboard etc..

If you can handle installation problems build your own.

Hi Colortec

Why not try the following : PCSpecialist.co.uk

They will build your base unit to your spec and also provide a monitor.

They have very good prices.

Good luck
