I have the following problem. I have an old pc with Win 95. Quite some time ago my former neighbour (a contractor with considerably more knowledge of pcs than me) told me to buy the Dr Solomons Anti Virus toolkit, which I did, and I also kept buying updates (they came on a 3.5in disk - quite some time ago). After a while, she told me stop buying the updates and as usual, I took her advice. That antivirus is 42 months old now - version 7.87. I would like to get an antivirus again. What is my best bet? Can I buy an update for what I have or should I uninstall it (no idea how) and buy something else altogether like Nortons? Many thanks.

I would recomend that you purchase Norton anti-virus or McAfee. These companies provide free updates available through the internet. You shouldn't have to pay for upgrades. You can uninstall your current anti-virus software by going to the control panel and double clicking on the add/remove programs icon, select the Dr Solomons from the list and click remove. If you cannot find this in the control panel, go to the directory that Dr. Solomons is located in and search for a file called uninstall or uninstall.exe, and double ckilck that. Or if neither are there you might try deleting the entire folder.
adding to the above answer, U say u have a old win'95 pc - installing norton will most definatly slow down your computer to a crawl. Dr solomons is a lot better but you do know you can get free (+ free upgrades) antivirus software of download sites (legal ones!) like www.download.com and search antivirus and look for ones that have a low download size and have a free licence. you do not really have to have a antivirus if u take some security steps like dont download attatchments from e-mails and turn of active x control. (look in help if you dont know how). Why should we all pay when there are things almost as good for free. To sum up dont choose norton (its expensive and BIG) Dr solomons is the next choice (still have to pay) or go for a free one (AVG is one of them - available on www.download.com).hope u find this useful.
