anti virus help needed !

Hi in all these years ive had the internet ive never paid for any norton or anti virus stuff . Im sure i normally wipe the pc and restore it all and the anti virus starts again . i keep getting mesages saying its out of date but everytime it takes me to a page where i have to pay ?? i tried to restore the systembut doesnt help ? i was currently using norton anti virus which obviously came with the laptop but my messages are from symantic reminding me its out of date . ive read on here about avg which is free to download and prob better then norton , but which one do i down load i went to there website and theres all different ones ? simple advice and steps needed thank you !!!! x

If you go to http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/, you will see three versions compared - you need to download the third one marked free, it doesn't have all the features but works well.

If you then install it and it talks you through the installation quite well.

It doesn't have high speed download so can take a while. You may need to remove Norton as well as it can interfere with other Anti-virus programs.
Go to here

and download AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition

Then go here

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/download-free-anti -spyware/us/frt/0

and download AVG Anti Spyware Free Edition

How do i remove norton ? go to add removeprograms ??? do i do that first or after downloading avg ?? thanks for your quick responses !! much appreciated

Remove Norton stuff by downloading and uninstalling using the following : http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo .nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Then install AVG
