Built In Oven Versus Range

Morning all

I'm looking at new kitchens at the moment and not sure what to do about ovens. Can anyone give me the pros and cons of built in oven with separate hob, over the traditional style range cooker. I was opting for the built in as getting the turkey out of the stand alone style oven at Christmas was quite a chore, I have a hernia and it was quite uncomfortable. Do I base an (irreversable) decision on a once or twice a year inconvenience?

I've pondered the same question recently and have opted for a built in oven and hob, similar to the one I have now. I went to the showroom, looked at the range cookers, bent down to open the bottom oven door - and thought getting a heavy dish - or any dish - out of that is just like having to pick it up off the floor. Not for me.

Thanks Naomi.

That's my kind of thinking, my problem won't be going away anytime soon and the kitchen will be here for a very long time. I suppose I know the answer, but don't know if there are any pitfalls to a built in that I'm not seeing.
We recently did a kitchen renovation and asked the same question.
Opted for a range with side opening door and made a 6 inch plinth for it to sit on.
Not quite so much bending and easier access.
The stove top is still easy to use considering the extra bit of height.
I have a range type cooker. If I was having a new kitchen fitted I'd opt for built in.
If you have a medical issue, rocky, it's a no brainer really. I've never had a problem with a built in oven. Far easier to clean too. (And for the same reason I love my ceramic hob).

Thanks all. I'm going for an induction hob this time round, I was convinced by a question you asked recently Naomi. I did a bit of research, watched one in action and realised that I don't need a gas hob. The though of never cleaning one again is heaven.

This buying a kitchen lark should be a pleasure but it's fast becoming a big fat bore. All the kitchens I've seen are starting to merge into one.
I know the feeling, rocky. I've looked at so many I've confused myself!! And I still don't know what I want!

Get the hernia sorted!

Honz, unless you're flogging ovens, jog on.

Ratter, if only, it's not just the hernia :(
I have got a range cooker, had it for seven years now. I do like it but time rolls on and if I was doing it again, I'd go for a built in and separate hob because my back does play up sometimes and when it does, using the ovens is out of the question.

Thanks Woofy, I think I need to be a bit sensible and go for the built in.

Now, Smeg, Miele, Neff, Siemans.........
