HiI know I might get strung up for this, but do you think Star Wars would be so fondly remembered if George Lucas had Directed (and had no help with the scripts) Empire and Jedi? I know New Hopes script was full of "cheese and ham" (but it was the good stuff from the deli) but that added to the charm of the original but Ep's 1 and 2 seemed to be "pre-packed, processed" rubbish. Imagine how good they could have been if he had just let some one else direct them.

i think the man is a genius and can do no wrong in my eyes, loved the original trilogy and phantom menace, attack of the clones and revenge of the sithe, only regret that he wont make the other 3 stories into films. no i wont string you up, ANGER LEADS TO THE DARK.
side

The Empire Strikes Back (directed by Irvin Kershner)definitely stands out for me as an amazing film without the schmultzy lines, heroics and annoying puppets but with serious quasi-religous overtones 'the force' etc, more complex villains, great music and genuine humour to break the tension.

There is uncertainty as to Lucas's contribution to it so I don't know what might have been with Episodes 1 and 2 (which I can barely watch with Ja-Ja, McGregor etc) but Episode 3 was quite good thankfully.

i dont think of star wars as serious, if it was it would be boring, i think its meant to be fun, thats why it appealsto such a wide range of people from small boys to housewives, teenagers and senior citizens. and jar jar brought a lot of humour into it.
