Mikey, both former King Charles had a pretty disasterous reign so I think the Prince doesn't relish being Charles III. He has Philip, Arthur or George to pick from though Philip is out because of Spanish connections and Arthur has largely been removed as a serious Kings name by the legend of King Arthur, so that leaves George VII, though he could pick any name really.
i find your terminology rather offensive..we are scots if you please !
I wouldn't call the reign of Charles II particularly disastrous. If he were to choose the name Philip he would be Philip II, as Prince Philip of Spain, wife of Mary Tudor, was granted the title of king of England during his wife's lifetime.
^^^ HUSBAND, not wife, DOH!
SirOracle, // it was the three main political parties who were united in wanting Scotland to remain in the UK and were constant in their visits up here telling us how much better off we would all be together. Hoist by ones own petard comes to my mind. :-) //

I couldn’t agree more. If only the vote had gone the other way.
It seems to me that the SNP are trying to have another bite of the cherry here. They were roundly defeated last September, which they should try to remember in the weeks and months ahead.
i know mikey................ they snp should ' know their place' and remain in the background. I quite like the name............. wee betty :)
I had an Aunty Betty when I was a little boy in the 50's...she made marvelous raspberry jam !
At anneasquith...You should also remember nationalism was responsible for two world wars last century and countless other minor conflicts.Looks like Salmond and his terriers are up for a bit more war.
Could I remind "ICIC" that A Salmond is not the leader of the SNP. He may well become a Westminster MP after the General Election in May.

If elected he will be one of some 600+ members of the House of Commons.

You ,and a few others ,are becoming paranoid .
But as Sturgeon is not standing, if Salmond wins a seat he is likely to become de facto leader of SNP MPs at Westminster.
The SNP is a party that by it's very nature only cares about 5 million of the 60 million people in the country. The other 55 million it's so disinterested in, it would actually prefer it if they became foreigners.

Worrying for most of us then that they could effectively be holding the government to ransom in a few months time, and dictating all sorts of terms aimed at further benefiting the priveleged 5 million.

The independence 'yes' voters must be thinking, 'phew, thank god we didn't win'.
Yes Ludwig we are all quietly laughing at how the established parties have been totally out-maneuvered by the SNP.

Makes you wonder where the " brains "of the country lie. Looks a bit like they are not south of the border.
Addendum........I should have said "Westminster" rather than "South of the Border"
// Yes Ludwig we are all quietly laughing at how the established parties have been totally out-maneuvered by the SNP. //

I'm not sure they planned to lose the independence referendum, but that's essentially why they're in such a good position now. You stand to gain all the benefits of independence with none of the risks.
Any Scots would be mad to vote anything other than SNP at this point.
At SirOracle...Nothing paranoid about how Scotland would have turned out if the yes vote had won....Big companies fleeing south, oil companies relocating to Newcastle and Sunderland, the SNP would have turned Scotland into a wasteland overnight.Remember vote SNP get Tory.
