You are of course correct Choucas. I only wish you were so punctilious in pointing out when us north of the border were referred to as Sweaties. ;-)
Wonder if Salmond gets the same treatment of abuse as Farage gets? After all the SNP are a gang of English hating Anglophobes.Seems to be OK to hate the English, but another story for anyone else .And im as Scottish as a thistle.
Ooooo! Fight ! Fight !

Actually its my old mate TTT that uses that phrase SirO, along with a few others which I never understand !

I wonder if Queen Elizabeth 1st minded being called Good Queen Bess ?
I have never used that term, nor have I ever referred to the Cymru celts as those who carry out unnatural practices on our woolly friends.
If you had said, "Good Queen Bess mark II" I might have forgiven you.
Hey what's all this Bess stuff, I've always known her as Liz.
LOL We are not going to resurrect the ER 2nd. argument again please. :-)
The Queen Mother was often referred to as Lizzie Windsor, whilst the Queen herself was often called Betty Battenburg, before the name was anglicised to Mountbatten.
Does sound a bit less Germanic I suppose.
Thanks Jackdaw...I am indebted for this new info .... I now a selection of names to choose from in the future !
There is no argument. It was agreed on the accession of Edward VII that when a regnal number conflicted between a ruler of Scotland and a ruler of England, before the Act of Union, then the higher number would prevail. Thus, if we ever have another king called James he will be styled as King James VIII of the UK and not III.
I live in Gordon district that Alex Salmond is standing for. I really hope that there is some way of stopping him, the outlook for Scotland would be a disaster should he get in. It seems that a majority will have to vote Lib-Dem as the only way get rid of him. Great pity that Malcolm Bruce is retiring. I would normally vote Conservative but in this election that will be a wasted vote unfortunately.
I refuse to be drawn into this debate yet again. ;-)
Taranis.....Has it not always been a wasted vote for you to vote Tory in your constituency ?
You are an absolute mine of information this evening Jackdaw !

I seem to recall reading somewhere, that Charles will want the title of George 7th, rather than Charles 3rd, when his times comes, although I can't really see why.

You would have thought that after being called Charles or Charlie for nearly 70 years, he wouldn't be keen to change now. Can you imagine the problems that might occur ? If could be going round Waitrose, on a Friday night, with his missus, and somebody could call out "Oi George ! " and he would just walk straight on ! It would be terribly embarrassing !
Until he became King, George VI was always known as Prince Albert (Bertie to his friends and family). His elder brother who abdicated, although officially called Prince Edward, was known throughout his life as David.
Your knowledge Jackdaw is encyclopedic !
before ascending the throne Edward VII was Prince Albert and Queen Victoria was Princess Alexandrina.
So when I call her Betty, I am in good company then ?
No. Her names are Elizabeth Alexandra Mary. She could have chosen any one of those on her succession. She could have been Elizabeth II, Alexandra or Mary III.
