I would like to spend a week visiting places of interest in Greece, including Athens, Delphi, Kalambaka and Meteora, Olympia, Sparta, Mystra ruins, etc I really don't want the regimentation and limitations of being part of an organised tour but neither do I want to hire a car. Is public transport an option? Any suggestions and advice will be much appreciated.

that's a very crowded week, hillwalker; even if you did hire a car, I don't think you'd achieve half of it. Sorry I can't answer directly - public transport goes most places but is pretty crowded; however, it's years since I did any of this and I can't give you up to date information. Mystra in particular I remember as pretty remote, and I don't think there's much left of Sparta (they always said they didn't need fortifications, as Spartans themselves would defend the city).

Thanks, jno. I hadn't looked at a map so didn't realise that I was being overly ambitious with what I could cover in a week. Perhaps I'll extend my holiday by a few days.
