A dear friend has been a common law wife (with the same partner) for 38years. She is 57 and he is 70 and on basic state retirement pension.

Would she be best advised to marry as far as the state is concerned. I dont believe that there is any "estate" such as property...or any other good advice??

Thanks

Remy

in law their is no such concept as common in law wife - so she will recieve non of the benefits tax and inheritance wise that she would as a wife

If she has nothing to lose she should marry him, although she should make a will if she wants any of her things to go to other relatives, as just because he his older it dosen't mean he will definately pass away first.
