Couple of things that I've just thought of...

Perhaps it's not just minorities who feel uncomfortable with the 'N' word.

From what you have written, it seems that you think that black people have imposed this on the rest of society...almost as if all white Britons are okay with this word.

You're in a perfect position to confirm something that I will never know - when there are no black people around, do white people use the 'N' word?

Do you think it might be that the real minority might be those who want to use them 'N' word?

This might be especially pertinent in the UK because the 'N' word has never gained currency amongst black people, so the only people who ever really used the word were...well...we all know who I'm talking about...

/// Let's ban the words 'Ginger' 'Fatty' 'Ugly' 'Shorty' 'lanky' 'Tart' 'hop-a-long' etc etc ///

/// First of all, good manners dictates the use of these words. ///

/// When you're being introduced to Anne Widdecombe, you would not refer to as 'Fatty'. ///

/// When you find out that the chap who works in the library is related to Douglas Bader, you would not refer to him as 'Hop Along'. ///

Exactly, its all down to good manners. but you are missing the point.

Obviously even for good manners alone most people would not use these words, but if they so wished, say in an argument etc, they would be perfectly free to do so, without the risk of the full force of the law raining down on them.

Also even my examples of insulting words have survived the wrath of the AB censors, so I wasn't forced to put the 'G' word, the 'F' word, the 'U' word, the 'S' word, the 'L' word, the 'T' word or the 'H' word.

Get my drift?
// we could use rhymming slang. //

something like bogger ? or mugger ?

sozza: I am aware that both of those dont rhymm
// /// When you find out that the chap who works in the library is related to Douglas Bader, you would not refer to him as 'Hop Along'. ///

ah history re writes itself - yes you do....( call a relation of Bader's 'fatty')

Bader opposed repatriation of his batman from POW camp - with the words - You're my skivvy - and skivvy you are and ckivvy you will stay !
and history shows the skivvvy stayed muttering no doubt - no one can be a hero to his valet

IN other threads History is being re writtten as we read, over the bombing of Dresden and bible translation.....
