Thanks, DT...and Psyb.....it's not Poppies that are being sold....x
Slappy, the broken one is even more precious as it was the case for so many of those brave men xxx
Woofgang, yeah fully aware, nothing on there that I wouldn't share my friend. I hadn't thought of it like that G... settled..... Thanks xx
The memories must be the driver here......none of my direct line were involved for whatever reason, not least fully understanding the line of heritage backwards to that time, never mind what they did!
DTC, mother and her twin in the ATS, other aunt in WRAF
I wanted my poppy because of my military comnnection and working with them so much, it was also a donation to the charities that support them.

I'm not 100% certain about what my ancestors did during WW1, I know my two paternal Great Grandfathers and brothers etc served with a Highland Regiment in France don't know how many returned home, maternally I really don't know.

WW2 My paternal grandfather was shooting down the luftwaffe, maternally he was a fireman in Glasgow so not allowed to go... he was heavily involved in the bombing in Glasgow in 1941
Slappy, I think those families who lost members in the war should have been awarded those poppies
maybe Psybbs, maybe
Shame about your poppy arriving broken, Slappy. But as DT says it does look fixable.
Psybbs, by now, so many generations on, we probably all had relatives who died or were wounded. It's a question of knowing who though! It is/was a lovely idea and I think should be replicated in 2018 with a field of white ones that either remain as a permanent memorial or are again sold for military and service charities.
