did she do something to it that might have broken it?
Question Author
She was making a snowman and does not recall knocking it or banging it somewhere. She just told me it hurts, and now its bruised and swollen.
Question Author
the area was hot and red, and now its not hot or red, just swollen and bruised.
Have you ever broken a bone, Phleb?

It's extremely painful.
Question Author
No i haven't. But she doesn't seem to be in agony kind of pain.
Maybe just a touch of "frost-bite"?
I doubt it's broken then.

When I broke my fingers just simple movements hurt.
When I broke a finger I was in no doubt about it. A bruise encircled the area of the break.
First thing that springs to mind is .......frostbite.

Give her 600mgms of Ibuprofen up to 6 hourly if necessary and it should settle within...3 days.
stuey.....you beat me to it.
Oooops! how old is your daughter?

If she is younger than 16 years of age, then ignore my Ibuprofen dosage.
Would it be wise to give Ibuprofen if the patient had say ... an allergy to Asprin .... my daughter has and I don't believe it is that uncommon.

It's just phleb hasn't stated any medical history and I found it quite scary thinking about the effects of the allergy with my own daughter.

If one had an aspirin allergy .....one might or might not have an allergy to NSAIDS....e.g Ibuprofen.

If you are worried.......use Paracetamol.

Thanks everyone and sqad. She isn't allergic to anything. I have given her some 6+ calpol. She isn't complaining of pain now, so that is an improvement.
If it was a mild case of "frost bite", it's possible, but not definite, that she'll get a pain in the same finger next time that she gets her hand really cold.
