after the snow wind and rain we now have ice in Edinburgh..not enough gritters to go around so we that live on the perifories have to put up with it 'till they get around to us. I live at the top of a very steep hill and will most likely have to abandon car at the bottom and walk up trying not to break my neck ...grrrrrr....when will councils prepare for the weather they know is coming ?

Back in the Sixties I lived in rural Norfolk and in the winter always had to contend with ungritted roads on my morning commute - but drivers these days expect everything on a plate, and are totally unable to cope with slippery conditions.

canary I lived in Thorpe St Andrew, a Norwich suburb and it was as bad there too.
I don't remember the side streets ever being gritted.

so does your screen name have a football connection?
ungritted road? Loooxury! We lived in the middle of a swamp and we thought ourselves lucky if an allgator pulled us out of the quicksands once in a while...
I wont be leaving the house today. It's snowing like billy-o here, we're covered in the stuff. The skiers will be delighted though.
I have a friend who lives in Edinburgh and she has recently moved from a house that she had to drive up a hill to get too as she was sick and tired of being snowed in in the winter and having to negotiate the icy road! Has moved to a flat now nearer to the town centre.
Any ABers suffering the full effects of the 'weather bomb'?
Had a snow and ice alert for N. Wales and whilst it's a tad nippy there is a faint breeze but nothing else, when 2 days ago it was supposedly going to be Baltic with a few inches of snow!
Anyone?
