Thinking of buying a 40" Samsung HD ready LCD TV. Anyone tell me if the picture quality is good?. We've seen a HD demo played through it and it's exceptional, but it's difficult to judge normal TV in the shop - it varies from place to place - obviously not brilliant at times cos of where it is and interference from other tvs (it's the same for all makes) Anyone bought one and can comment on picture quality?

I can't answer your question i'm afraid as I have never seen this tv before although Samsung do have a quality reputation when it comes to TV's.

What I was going to mention is that you may want to hold off for a week as Samsung are releasing an updated model on the 17th April - the R7 series. See the link below for details and a price.

We have recently bought the 26" model, picture quality,
Sorry about that, must be finger trouble. As I was saying - picture quality, sound etc. excellent. Mind you my picture comes through cable so not sure if that makes any difference. Just as an aside, I cannot imagine your room size for a 40" model !!
I have shopped for tvs recently and have ended up buying an old fashioned tube Sony tv rather than go for LCD and am absolutely delighted with it. (Bought on Ebay for 600. Brand new with warranty. Only problem is they are very heavy.) I was told that even on the best quality LCDs there is a problem with the picture background, particularly if is fast moving eg. if you watch lots of sport. The background ends up looking like a patchwork of squares. I was also put off by the idea that HD tv is going to be on very limited supply at first and will require a new Sky box. Only certain channels will be available for quite a while. I have also heard it said that there is only a very limited number of manaufacturers for LCDs at the moment so many of the inner workings are produced by the same companies and vary little in quality, despite the brand name. Perhaps look at the latest Which report in your local library though it is a really fast moving market.
