Is know how you like your diversions Peter but it would be a bad day all round if anyone was diverted from Manchester to Harare.
PP - Are you on board Ivor?

Ivor

no it's a free web site called flightradar 24.com you can follow aircraft all over the world.
Jeez, O'leary wont stop cost cutting until there is a disaster
Silly question - will a plane with no fuel drop straight down on glide towards the planet then go splat?
Wolf63, I don't think it would drop like a stone. Even so, after it had glided down it would probably still go, Splat!
Pilots are trained to do controlled landings with minimal or no power..... wouldnt be a comfortable landing but possible
Sandy, one night when boredom and insomnia collide for both of us we must run an experiment. We will have to find some airplanes first and some 'volunteers' to test run the planes.

I am going to feed the lions but, if I survive unscathed, I will return later. I might go for a nap too.

I was going to do some housework today - but I have avoided it for so long and I don't want to break my track record today.
It would glide down Wolf. It might land properly as well. If it has lost all power, there is a little wind generated turbine called a ram air turbine that would power the instruments.
There was a film made of a real incident where a plane ran out of fuel. It was due to metric/old system mix-up.

Anyway they did land the plane on a large car park type place.

I don't fly but it is reassuring to know that they plan ahead for such things.
Will Ryanair charge them for the extra miles?
There`s something very strange going on with a Flybe aircraft in the south west on that website. It looks like he might have been dumping fuel.
I'm 6 miles away and it's very ruff, had to dive for cover at one point on my way home.

Someone took this, on local news...
