I'm going out with a friend tomorrow night and there's another person who's going to be there who doesn't seem to like me, because whenever I'm with my friend, he ignores me and talks to her. I asked my friend about this and she just says that I should just join in the conversation, but how can you join in a conversation when you're being totally ignored. I don't know what his problem is with me, but I was kind of hoping for a bit more support from my friend on this. Is it unreasonable of me to expect this?

Well come on SAH, how did your night go? The suspense is killing me. Did you go out after all, or take my advice about the 'Maltesers'?................
Beenee, the inviting his wife thing was supposed to be a joke. Sensible adults of whatever gender or marital status should be able to go out with friends and have a good time - as long as they do stay friends and nothing more happens. BTW, your are male aren't you SAH?
whether or not you are male or female does bear some relevance in this context, but on the whole it sounds like a rubbish night out, come and have a glass or two round here, i much more polite than that, i hope your friend sees through this person soon. i was going to defend him at first, some people are cripplingly shy, but after reading through he does sound like abit of a creep.
Three is always a difficult combo I reckon, one of you will always feel sidelined. Treacle's sounds the most sensible!! Do tell SAH, how did it go?

First of all thank you all for your advice, I really appreciate it and for the record Darthvader, I'm actually MALE, I should have corrected ANUSHIKA earlier on, sorry about that. As for my Halloween night, well it all turned out a bit of a non-event, after all the initial worry, cos he never showed. My friend decided not to drink in the end because she didn't want to get into a conversation with this person if he turned up. She went on to say that she thought it would have been wrong for him to have excluded me from the conversation, just because he liked to have "one to one chats" and even went on to say that if I hadn't have been there she'd have had no-one to speak to! (though if he had showed up, I'd like to think that she still wouldn't have spoken to him) The evening was great, my only regret is that I didn't know beforehand that he wasn't actually going to turn up, if I 'd known that I could have looked forward to it a lot more. Cheers :-)
sah glad everything is ok whether your male or female this person still sounds like an idiot :)
