Can a person of knowledge tell me how long is a cheque valid for if you don't pay it in as soon as you receive it?

agree with methyl - I've known cheques to be cancelled after three months if there's no good reason why they weren't presented.
Very often a cheque older than 6 months gets cashed because the bank has not bothered to check the date on it.
and on the other side of the coin
you should cancel sort of unwanted issued cheques

A fren' made a deposit on the tenancy and then (1975) the cheque was uncashed but put in a cash box.
At the end of the tenancy all was well and the landlord said
consider it ripped up my good man ....let us say 9 Apr 75

and so my fren' - engineer - very exact - cancelled the cheque
and was surprised to be contacted by the bank on yes 10 Oct 75 saying the deposit cheque had been paid in on 8 Oct 75 - yes one day before the six month period was up, and did they still want him to pay it ?

cool huh ? we were students - a lesson learnt early and well
