A rooster is a male chicken. A hen is a female chicken.

Chicken is the word for the type of bird. Hen and Cockerel are the names for the female and male

A Hen does not have to be a Fowl, it can be an Avian Female of any type, Robin, Blackbird etc,
Chicken usually refers to a Domestic Fowl of either sex.
A chicken is a young fowl.
