Isn't a hen just a female chicken....as the ******* is the male ??????????????
All hen's are chickens but not all chickens are hen's
The hen is the female that lay's the eggs for breackfast, the cockerel / rooster is the male the wakes us up when he crow's in the break of day.
A chicken - as in birds - can be a female [hen] or male [c@ck] of a member of the gallus genus, aka domestic fowls.

A hen as such, is the female of almost all bird species.

It can be confusing as domestic fowls are frequently and erroneously referred to as hens.
