I have above that was my aunt's and fairly heavy. Would it be worth anything other than sentimentality.

Gold is always worth something...or if you were very fond of your aunt, maybe you could have something done with it.Is it wide,if so,you could have some small stones set in it.
I wouldn't take it to one of those, 'We buy scrap gold', shops.
I sold a ring and got £82 for it. It will be worth something, if only for scrap. They do not sell it again, no-one wants old fashioned rings. You might get more if you sell privately.
I once went to one of these shops that buy gold...I had quite a few pieces I no longer wore and had my eye on a rather expensive necklace I had fallen in love with...I was AMAZED at the amount I got!!!!!
AMAZED in a good way or a bad way?
a very good way
The shop I went to were very fussy. They wanted proof of identity etc. and then they made absolutely sure that I really wanted to sell the ring. As it only cost me £20 originally (I bought it from someone who had finished with someone else) I thought £82 was a fair price.
Gold is currently 26 / 27p a gram, so if you weigh it you will know, roughly, the scrap cost.
I too,had to have proof of identity etc.Yes,I think £82 was a good price.
We must have gone to honest shops....!!!
Sorry £26 / £27 per gram.
The price per ounce is dependent on the purity of the gold. This is normally shown on the "hall mark"inscribed on the ring.
Yes. 9ct is 3/8 gold. 18ct is 3/4

My neighbour some time ago got £2,000 for all her broken jewellery and her mother got £1,000. I couldn't believe it.
I know...amazing...mind you gold has dropped in price over the last few months.
Most jewellers will buy gold from you..and may give you an even better price than the 'we buy scrap gold' merchants.
It is always worth asking.
This entirely depends on what kind of gold the ring is made from "Yellow gold" is meaningless. Is it 14 carat, 18 carat or what ? Don't forget that if its 9 carat, then only one third is actually gold, the rest being copper, zinc, etc.

What does the hallmark say ?

My wedding ring was hubby's grandmother's and was a 22 or 24carat gold cannot remember which. I also took a lot of old jewellery to a We buy Gold shop here and got over 500€ so was well pleased.
