Hi there I cant believe it. (Im getting like victor meldrew!!) I applied for housing to a council in England and I sent off a medical form and I was awared no points when I enquiried about it I was told it was assessed by a health visitor, not a nurse or a doctor that is ridicolus health visitors are not doctors and they should not be placed with the responsibility of making decisions that affect peoples lives. Who are health visitors? Glorified bum wipers!!

With respect Gordie, you do not portray yourself as a 'nice understanding patient person' at times!

I am not racist I am just fed up of being knocked back for jobs constantly and the small town I live in has a lot of European Immigrants being offered employment. It is simply not fair employers should have the responsibility to reduce unemployment locally but are not doing so for some reason. I am not the only one who thinks this if we look at the rise of UKIP in the European Elections some might simply say it is a protest vote but I disagree I honestly believe that voters are sending out a clear message that immigration in Europe has gone too far and people in this country who want to work are fed up
Perhaps sometimes people's limits of tolerance get over-stretched by crass comments. For the OP to malign the whole UK HV profession because he's been refused housing points isn't acceptable.

I dont feel that Health visitors have the knowledge or experience to assess someones medical points like a doctor would it must be a cost cutting measure on behalf of the council. This work should be done by a doctor
Gordie, that view is because you don't understand the role of an HV. HVs have three years' training to be a nurse, then an extra year to become an HV. The NHS doesn't just pick them off the street. Doctors, on the other hand, study for at least seven years to become medical professionals - to work in the hospitals and GP practices. There is a shortage of doctors in many areas. Many tasks which can perfectly compentently be assessed by a skilled nurse no longer have to be done by a doctor, doctors can far better be using their time in direct patient care, not this sort of paperwork. I would rather be assessed by a skilled local healthcare professional than by a doctor whose time is limited, who might not even know me. HVs understand all the implications of social housing, demographics etc - they're out on the patch all the time.
Have you looked at the link i posted, gordie? That might be the answer.
Question Author
Yes I have pixie thanks I am going to register thanks.
...and the link I posted told you that this assessment is often undertaken by HVs. It's not just you.
Good luck x
I know gordie is crass and rude at times. but................im not too sure we as abers have the ' whole story ''
I agree that it should be a doctor and not a nurse.

I hope you are successful in getting social housing. I have a council house and it wasn't that hard where I am
Mezza - on what grounds must it be a doctor?
