Not necessarily. It may depend on the italy v Costa Rica score - if that's a draw and England lose then yes, it's all over. If the other came has a winner then a good win for England in the last game would give them 3 points which can sometimes be enough.
Oh God, hope so.

and while we are at it, if Alex Salmond gets the kicking he deserves,
will he throw the towel in?

or will be say - hey boys, Plan B - independence for Scot.....

You'd think so!
yes almost certainly we will be out. Which will please you no end.
They still have to play the third group game even if they lose tomorrow and are out. However after the third game they will fly home.
yes everyone plays 3 games even if the 3rd one is pointless.
Sorry, Gordie, for this having nothing whatsoever to do with your question, but I address it to Peter Pedant. Why would Alex Salmond throw the towel in if the independence vote is 'No'?
Haven't you ever heard of "If at first you don't succeed..."? Perhaps you have not come across the story of Robert the Bruce and the spider either? Maybe you're more in tune with Homer Simpson's philosophy which is, "If at first you don't succeed, give up!"
My answer was really only addressing the title of the post. I omitted to deal with the supplementary question, the answer to which is, as others have said, that every team has to fulfil its group fixtures- for example Australia and Spain are out but still have to play their remaining match.
re spain, is it the first time the reigning world champions have gone out in the group stages?
Good question, gordie.
apparently the fifth time it's happened, but I don't know which the others were
Italy 1950
Brazil 1966
France 2002
Italy 2010
Spain 2014

^^^ surprisingly common in the 21st century isn't it
Well Spain's excuse is that the weather didn't suit. Apparently it was too chilly........

(I'll get me coat).
Indeed :-)

I'll get my coat
You Chille too.
// Why would Alex Salmond throw the towel in if the independence vote is 'No'? //

Let's hope he doesn't. Let's hope he keeps going until the public gives the 'right' answer, EU style.
I think I can safely assure you he won't, Ludwig; throw in the towel, that is, if the vote is negative. So, let's hope that you - as well as all the sensible residents of Scotland - DO get what you and they want, whether now or later.
Is it all over now, can I turn the telly on?
Be more positive WHEN England lose tomorrow night!!
