10 jockeys and 12 horses

Solution: With x jockeys and y horses, then

x + y = 22 or equivalently 2x + 2y = 44 (1)

Counting legs, 2x + 4y = 68 (2)

Subtracting (1) from (2), we get 2y = 24

Hence y = 12 and x = 10

I see this question differently.

With the jockeys mounted I have not counted their legs.

Thus 5 Jockeys and 17 Horses. What do you think?

I think you're very devious, Heyford!
