I have won a jumper for my Mum - 99p
I cannot pay as the seller wants my mobile number and ebay will not allow me to pay without it
I am not giving my number for this - I would not have bid had I been aware of this - what shall I do if a case is raised against me?
Offer to pay through someone's paypal if you don't have an account your self if they don't agree you h ave tried never heard of the mobile number thing before
It seem to be that nowadays it's becoming obligatory to provide a mobile telephone number to all and sundry. What happens if you have Not got a mobile.?
Maybe you could offer to send a postal order?. Or get someone to pay through their paypal. I don't understand sellers putting items on at 99p when they have to pay paypal out of it. The days of bidding wars seem to have gone now. Why do they want your mobile number?
It feels like a cunning plan to get hold of phone numbers so that you can be bombarded with spam phone calls. I wonder how many other people "won" something?
This seems rather fishy. I do a lot of business on Ebay and have never been denied payment facilities due to lack of telephone number. Is it the seller demanding your number? if so do not give it out, and then contact customer service. Why will EBay 'not let you pay'? What message are you getting? If you are normally paying with PayPal hassle free then I guess this is a buyer scam and the jumper probably does not exist. I would ask this question on the EBay community forum -see what you can get on there.
Paypal have asked for my number before when I've used it for a foreign transaction, they call with an automated service giving me a code which I have to type in. It's a security measure I presume.
I have a paypal account and have never had to give anybody my phone number. Over the years I have bought from Hong Kong, California and Germany as well as UK, every purchase has been trouble free. It sounds fishy to me.
