I saw the one about switching off the lights at 11.00pm on the 4th August to commemorate the start of WWI - the foreign secretary at the time, Edward Grey said at the outbreak of the war that "lights are going out all over the world, and he doubted whether we'd see them on again in our lifetime" or words to that effect. Didn't know about the Earth hour
I read about it earlier in the DM online. Forgot all about it to be honest. Kind of hard topping up your wine glass with the lights out, that's my excuse anyway and I'm sticking to it. :)
Ours too cupotee, well pleased as from tonight with the hour change they will now stay on until 1am instead of midnight. Its not a popular decision in our town, our council switching them off.
I only noticed it by chance on Sky News but I don't tend to have lights on unless I need them and often sit in the dark if I've just got my laptop or the TV on.
