I thought when a number was blocked if they called again it would not ring at your end.
Blocked should mean not accept call.

By the way it is a company in Manchester named SLM Connect

Yeah I was surprised to get cold called from a Manch number 0161
living in Manchester myself I mean ( rather than Bangkok or Lagos)

those with big big big memories should be able to give the exchange

237 I think is CENtral - and they expanded from there
[ 792 is SWInton and then spawned 793,794....]

Yes I am able to remember pre STD ( subscriber trunk dialling ) days
It's well worth the £1-50/month is costs me for caller ID. If I don't recognise the number it doesn't get answered.

It doesn't get through to me, it is blocked and then I get a message saying it has been stopped. But what do they hear? I never answer private, withheld or unknown numbers. If they know me they can leave a message, but the thing is as I live in Spain any calls to my English orange I have to pay half the call, so I do not want it.

Great, followed the link, have no registed with TPS so hopefully not many more calls, p.s. meanwhile I have burnt the carrot and coriander soup!!!
The difficulty with blocking is that you can't block a person or a company, only the telephone number that they calling from. So, all the scammers have to do is change to another number, and they get through again.
The TPS is just about useless. They have very little power and are nothing more than a paper tiger. Foreign companies don't have to abide by the TPS rules, and lots of British ones ignore the rules as well.

That is why my phone is permanently "off the hook", from about 09.00 to late in the evening. That way if there is a family emergency in the middle of the night, they can still get through, as happened in February 2013, when my brother had a serious accident and head injury. Its a pain in the ar*e but I can't think of another way to stop these nuisance calls. If I forget to take the phone off the hook in the morning, within 10-15 mins the calls start again ! Its a modern plague.
