Reading that article though, its from an ex-BBC bod trying to flog a book, making the very obvious point that programmes generally have a shelf-life ( although soaps and some panel shows seem to have avoided that).
And this quote? Talk about hedging your bets and not committing yourself ;)

I cannot see them pulling Top Gear anytime soon - it is a massive hit outside of the UK, contributing lots of money to the BBC coffers, and I think "Strictly.." is safe for a few seasons yet.
They could pull "The Apprentice" though, for me - never warmed to that show.
