My Cat

Something I've always been curious about my cat, and other cats do this as well, when you tickle or scratch her on the back or near her shoulders, she licks herself and seems to go into raptures, ie her eyes have a far away look and she starts drooling and opens and closes her mouth like a fish. I have been told it could be a throwback to being a kitten, reminds her of being groomed by her mother, but I don't know, can anyone enlighten me?

Since I read somewhere about cats like being massaged between their shoulders I tried it with mine and she loved it on the shoulders and all down her back using quite a lot of pressure and showed similar reactions to yours.

I think they like it just as you and I would!

I have found the same thing with my cat... I can keep her from going away by doing that.
