Has popped in his final goal, aged 87, and now off to the stadium in the sky.

I remember his faux pas in Scotland....Raith Rover Rangers in the SLCup quarter finals. The week before Archie Macpherson had commentated on the derby match and when Celtic (Lennox I think) managed to put the ball over the goal from 3 yards out, open net, he came out with the cardinal saying, 'Oh Feck' (being a devoted hreen and white hoops man). He received a 3 week ban from the Scottish Beeb.

Coleman uttered the immortal words when Raith beat Rangers 1-0, "They'll be singing on the streets of Raith tonight."

Any Coleman-balls stories that you remember in honour of this classy commentator....

RIP David Coleman.
I remember the 1964 Tokyo Olympics when Ann Packer won her gold medal. David's voice broke with emotion as she headed for the finishing line. It was a good Olympics for us and David was the ideal commentator having been an athlete himself. R.I.P.
A voice from my youth gone.
My favourite "colemanball" was
"And the line-up for the final of the women's 400 metres hurdles includes three Russians, two East Germans, a Pole, a Swede and a Frenchman."

They'll be singing on the streets of Raith tonight."
i don't get what's wrong about that :)
Fondly remembered, and inspired a column in Private Eye too.

This is The Metros 10 favourite David Coleman Colemanballs, in affectionate remembrance;

more like a boxing match :)
In the 70s there was a runner with the name of Juantoreno. He was from Cuba and went like a rocket. During the race for a medal, Juantoreno came around the final bend and into the final few metres and Coleman said "look at this man go, he just opens his legs and shows his class".

Bednobs - there is no place called Raith, it's just a name, a Gaelic word for fort. There used to be two sides in Kirkcaldy (home of Raith) that used the town name - sometime in the distant past, the clubs were incorporated together and became Raith Rovers.
1966 world cup, Portugal were 3 goals down to Korea, they scored again to the immortal words..."It's another for Korea.".....say it quickly.
