Last week I sent my annual parcel off to Our friends in Japan. It contained a miniature bottle of Famous Grouse with toffees.

The parcel opened in Belfast by the customs, offending whiskey taken out and parcel returned to me.

Now I will have to pay another £35 to re-send it, and without a guarantee that it will arrive in time for Christmas.

Wouldn't you have thought that Royal Mail/HMRC could have re sealed it without the offending article and sent it on. No, too much trouble.

Grrrrrrrrrr........

Belfast customs probably p**sed of that you sent Scotch Whiskey.
You can't post whiskey it counts as an inflammable liquid, the entire parcel could have been confiscated.

So I've discovered Eddie, just wish the post office had told me that when I sent it.
The Post office should have asked what was in the parcel and then told you if it was illegal.
Agree, I'd have been furious with the post office, don't you have to fill in a customs form declaring content when you post abroad?
That`s ridiculous. The cargo section of the aircraft that they send it on will probably have shed loads of booze and duty free on board in the passenger cabin.
Alcoholic beverage is not hazardous for transportation by air as long as it does not exceed 70%abv when packed in quantities for retail sale as you would buy in duty free or your local off-licence. This is set out in the IATA Dangerous Goods regulations.
Alcoholic beverages ARE prohibited for air mail look here

But the post office should have got you to fill in a customs declaration and told you alcohol was banned .
Actually wine beer and larger are ok but not spirits with an ABV above 24%.
