Hi there
I have to make regular payments to Christians against poverty and I go into a bank that they recommend Llyods TSB however the payment was never received I found my receipt and there is a digit missing on the receipt from what the account number is it is obvious some stupid person who did it and I am now being accused of not making the payment and I want to go in there tomorrow and tear strips of them because my money has gone somewhere in the system it should not have. How can I make a complaint

Who wrote the incorrect account number on the receipt?
If a digit is missing them presumably it is not a valid bank account number as all account numbers are 8 digits long and all sort code numbers are 6 digits long. I suspect that that this transaction hasn't been made at all as the computer wouldn't accept the account number (because it isn't an account number because there is a number missing) - maybe a trial run for explaining to the charity why you haven't made the payment?

It was a computer printed receipt
Has £22 actually left your account?
Even better, very to clear to read and check prior to leaving the bank!
All you can do at this stage is to take the receipt tp the bank and ask them what they think has happened given the account number is incomplete.

Depending on their response then you need to decide whether maybe Christans against Poverty's system is not showing the payment for some reason.

I am sure there is a resolution and approaching it calmly will get the best results.
Good point Pixie - I presumed it was a cash transaction.
It's quite simple to resolve, I think.
If you can show you had given the bank the correct details but the bank made an error by keying in the wrong number then they will i'm sure reimburse you and may deal with any consequential costs you may have incurred such as late payment charges.
If you provided the wrong account number then you will have to ask the bank, but if someone else has the money the bank may find it difficult to force them to give it back if they don't want to co-operate. So it's up to the bank whether they want to reimburse you as a loyal customer or just say "we'll do what we can but for now you may need to pay again"
It's better to have a regular standing order/direct debit or do a BACS transfer, or use a paying in slip which has the correct account code on, and pay in via a machine
It will either be in someone else's account - and there's very little you can do for that sort of sum if they refuse or ignore requests to repay it - or in a suspense account from where the bank can very easily redirect it to where it should go.
Geordie - no you can get clerks who look like Camilla or Dr Shipman and they can be as cr+p as the rest.

I still bank with RBS - I suppose it is because I like punishment

I am still a creditor because someone got one of my digits wrong....
and it is so troublesome that I feel sorry for all parties....
It has been twelve weeks so far...
