My nephew tells me that it's best to get touch screen with Windows 8 as he doesn't think it's conducive to mouse operation....any thoughts ?

Good luck - in this case a system restore would be the simplest way to get things back how they should be, but it's not the solution for all problems that some contributors to AB seem to think.
I tried one of the options and got to the same little "enter admin password" box, with no option to enter a password :'(
I think you're right.. I may just do that, if it doesn't need a password!
after 20 mins on the phone to the Currys warranty people, it's sorted. had to do a major system restore as the regular version required a password!

for the record, he also said you need to have the password screen to use some functions on your pc.. which may or may not be right, but I ain't touching mine again, lol.

thanks :o)
Phew, that must be a relief.
My new laptop is not touch screen and has Windows 8, and it works fine.

I absolutely loathe Windows 8, but not because of anything to do with touchscreen functions.

It's particularly a nightmare when you first start, because you have to learn to use a computer again - so much is different.
Of course it gets easier, but I don't see anything as better than before.

The Windows Mail e mail programme on W8 is awful, but I have managed to download Windows Live Mail instead.

If I could go back to an earlier Windows operating system I would jump at the chance, but it's not going to happen.
