I bought a bottle of this the other day for the first time in years. It tasted incredibly sweet. Has it always been like that or have they changed the recipe?

Humbersloop - have used the slow cook twice (successfully) and cooked honey and garlic chicken both times (not a tin of tomatoes in sight!)
good news sherr - be sure to branch out a bit soon though, or it'll be why-did-I-buy-that-bloody-machine-just-for-garlic-and-honey-chicken time...

..food police now stood down ;)
we were quite poor growing up, I used to live on either jam, tomato sauce or brown sauce sandwiches most days, I hated the sugar ones yeugh!
It's funny how the things we grow up with we perceive to be normal.
I went to my friend's house for tea when I was little and he was part of a very big family - 10 altogether, I think. I thought it very peculiar that his mum emptied a can of baked beans, filled the can with water then poured that in to the saucepan as well.
He thought that the beans he had at my house were too dense.
I do that...
I was going to have peanut butter on toast but I think I might go back to my childhood and have ketchup on toast instead.

When heating up my Heinz Tomato soup I swill out the can with a splash of milk, just like my Mum used to do!
Supermarket brand soups vary from the very nice to the "what the heck !". But Heinz isn't always my choice anyway, especially since there is no explanation as to what modified means in the ingredient list. Heinz tomato is ok but reminds me of being ill, and it does have a strange consistency for a tomato (probably due to the cream ?). One brand worth trying are the Amy's Kitchen range. Especially the multi ingredient 'Hearty' ones, which maybe a little oily, but none the worse for that. Well I like them anyway.
Any bought soup is rubbish and expensive. What's wrong with making your own?
Nothing, absolutely nothing, sometimes people like a blast from the past, a bit of nostalgia, what is wrong with that?
I don't want to make soup. We like Heinz tomato soup. Actually, Heinz and all the other soup companies must be doing something right as they are all large, multi-million pound companies.
We have a lot of home made soups, stews, casserole, curries, pies and even bake our own bread.
We grow our own veg not only to eat but to turn in to wine. We are very fussy about the meat and fish we buy.

But sometimes I crave beans and toast or Heinz tomato soup and I have to have Heinz tomato ketchup with my home made chips which are cooked in lard. There is nothing wrong with that.

When I'm under the weather a jacket potato with beans is a particular favourite of mine.

Diddlydo, variety is the spice of life and each to their own. There is no need to be so judgemental.
Convenience diddly; convenience.
