What input sockets does your car/radio have?
Question Author
The car is 6 months old and therefore has USB,3.5 jack and says ipod underneath.
The earphones you received with your iPhone have a jack on the end.
Sorry I pressed the wrong button. The cable you need is one with a jack on each end. You will also need to charge your phone using a car charger as playing music eats your battery.

If I used a cable with jack at each end all I get is the sound,It does not dislay song titles, artists etc. on the car screen.
The only way you will get track info on your radio screen is if your iPhone is connected directly into your radio. If your radio is only equipped to accept an iPod the only way you can use your iPhone is to plug into the auxiliary position using the cable as suggested. This is the way I play music in my car using my iPhone 5. If you use a dash mounted holder for your phone you can easily read the track and album information, this will also double as a hands free.
Try it , it works for me.
