Not so long ago there was an ad warning motorists to be on the lookout for motorcyclists, but the ad clearly showed that the accident was caused by the motorcyclist. Now the ad has changed and is a genreal warning to be on the lookout especially at junctions. What I want to know is how did the first ad get broadcast? Do you know the one I mean? Chris Ecclestone going, " Now you see him. Now you see him..."

i know the one you mean and looking at it now i see what you mean EssJay1, also i can see the point made by v9tz that the car driver was not showing enough observation in his manouver.

perhaps that was what they (the advertiser) was trying to say, accidents happen.

but also, i, as a biker aswell, tend to notice bikers alot more when im in my car.

I'm also a biker(and a female)And unless u own a bike you will never understand the road like a biker does and how many car drivers seem to have such bad eyesight and the usual line..."Ididn't see you" maybe having a bike license for a year before owning a car would improve their eyesights.

Absolutely Zara, all car drivers should have to ride a bike for at least a year to learn road craft. It's another world they drive around like zombies because their steel box will protect them, on the other hand bikers know that if they hit something it's going to hurt.

The ad concerned shows a bike filtering and a guy turning right in front and knocking him off. This is a common problem when filtering and experienced bikers will watch the "body language" of the cars as they are filtering, I can usually spot someone who's going to turn right. Of course it's easy when there is an actual turning on the right. What often happens though the motorist will get impatient at sitting in the queue and suddenly attempt to swing out right and turn around. That's the worst time to be filtering. What do you ride Zara? I've got an R1.

I think I'll start a new thread......

Of course, road accidents are never, ever the biker's fault, are they? Because no-one on a bike would ever drive at excessive speed, overtake on a blind bend, or weave in and out of traffic without so much as a by-your-leave, would they? Oh goodness me, no. Paragons of virtue, one and all.

Thorry, I theem to have my tongue thtuck in my cheek.
That's right LOM, we are the saints of the road, a shining example of motorised Utopia!
Well littleold me no one saying you don't get bikers to blame in certain situations but if car drivers opened their eyes on the road there wouldn't be so many accidents. If indicators and road sense weren't optional extras we wouldn't be having this little chat i'm sure. We cant be expected to be everyones eyes on the road, shouldn't have to be,but sadly we do.Well loosehead don't ride no more its just not safe out there, just pillion now but its a thunderace, very similar to yours i do believe.

Didn't mean to upset the bikers and I totally agree that too many get knocked off their bikes because of the carelessness of drivers who have more than 2 wheels at their disposal. HOWEVER...
The advert I'm referring to showed a car positioned to turn right. The bike comes up on his outside - overtaking, ignoring the driving position of the car - and gets knocked off as the driver completes his move.
Now I don't want to get into a debate about bikers v cars, men v women, bmw drivers v mercedes drivers. I still say the original advert showed a biker getting knocked off his bike after driving illegally. The new advert is more accurate and so more effective. Like that crumpled girl getting put back together to get us all to reduce our speed.
Its a battle that will for long rage EssJay1 you aint upset no one but the advert with the little girl crumpled up is awful, that really makes me shiver, don't like it at all but i guess thats the reaction it needs eh?
