He is still on the critical list but today to me he seems a little better. He still can't talk very well, he nods and shakes his head a lot. He also sleeps most of the time. He is eating a little but needs to be spoon fed. My real question is WHY do hospitals employ nurses that have little of no English. When I asked the nurse several questions she had to get someone else to answer me and it was not another nurse but a lady who is the ward clerk. I despair of the NHS I really do. She also couldn't answer as she was not a nurse but at least she understood me.

First of all, glad Mic is comfortable and taking some nourishment.

As regards the language barrier, I feel that is incredibly important to be able to be understood and equally understand what is being said back to you - just happy they had someone who could do that for you today.

Love to you both.

Glad he's a little better Jeza. It must be very frustrating for you with the language problem.
So pleased to hear that Mik seems brighter, must make you feel better too. As to the non-English speaking nurses, no idea. However, I must say that when himself was in the hospital in Biingham there were lots of agency staff and they seemed far cheerier than the hospital staff. Hope you get a decent night's sleep, x
I don't understand it either, jeza - you'd have thought a clinical language requirement would be the bare minimum. I know some Trusts are still recruiting overseas because they can't get the staff from here in the UK.... but surely they undertake some sort of language test as part of the recruitment process.

Best wishes to mic and to you - he really is in the best place at the moment. I hope you're OK ....
Glad to hear that Mic seems to be a little better today, Jeza. The best of luck to you both.

Thanks to all for your support. I really am grateful to have someone to talk to even if it is only via AB.
It is always comforting to lnow there is a friendly ear to listen and often we have been in similar situations - makes you feel less alone with it all. I know it did me.
^know, sorry , eye drops time.
Jeza, so pleased mic is comfortable.

Remember, AB is like having a neighbour to talk to, we're all just next door!
Jeza - my thoughts.... (are with you)

The nurses' English is probably not the deciding factor - altho it does make you think -do they know what they are doing ? - at a time when your mind should be elsewhere.

your questions are probably better directed towards a doctor but finding one of them on a Sunday is a bl++dy miracle

try to get some sleep...

PP doctors are in short supply over the weekend (am I the only one looking forward to Monday) I saw on the news a couple of weeks ago that more patients die in hospital over the weekend than the rest of the week combined. Not good knowledge for me at this time.
J it is only eight hours until the ward rounds start...

It is in fact worse being an inpatient on a week end
when a pretty little thing says from the door, I dont know who you are,
I dont know what is wrong with you, and I dont know what to do...
[ I survived to write this ]
I think that only applies to emergency admissions.
jeza - my thoughts and best wishes are with you and mic. hugs on their way. (())
