We have a bumper crop this year - the oval red sort, very pretty. I know they're sour, but can I use them in desserts? Making jelly sounds like a pain, and it's such a shame to leave them to go to waste. Any recipes?

Apple and blackberry jam?
Crab apples will need some sugar added. make up batches to put into the freezer and eat just as stewed apples with custard/ice-cream or make into Eve's Pudding or apple crumbles. I also have a bumper crop of apples and most are just being thrown away at the bottom of the garden, I agree such a waste.
We made a few gallon of wine with our lot of crab apples.

Delicious.
They make a lovely Crab Apple Jelly, it goes well with all cold meats. Give it a go, put into small jars and give as Christmas Gifts. Lovely and think how good you will feel.
