I am wanting to write a letter to a friend in America, - do you till have to use airmail paper, or is normal paper ok to send.

Its been a long time since i wrote a letter - what with modern technology and all!

You don't need airmain paper. Ordinary paper will just get weighed and you will be charged the appropriate postage.
You may write it on whatever you like, over 50grams it is a little more expensive, 8 sheets of standard A4 paper plus an envelope do not quite make 50grams, (writing on both sides you can complete an essay!)

Many thanks for you answers, appriciate that.
I guess many people use email these days - then it doesn't cost you anything.... not as nice as a letter, IMO, but it's a good way to keep in touch.
You can write on the side of a log if you want Mooria, as long as you are prepared to pay the postage. "airmail" paper and envelopes are not compulsory and never have been.
