Okay, I know it's not a charity... You know how utterly brilliant John Cleese is? And how much joy he has given to the world? And how much money his ex-wife has taken him for? He is currently having to do world tours (at the age of 74), be in dreadful and humiliating adverts, do voice overs etc to raise money to simply pay his ex-wife. Here's the details: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2401209/John-Cleese-Humiliating-foreign-adverts-comic-genius-making-12-million-divorce.html
He is having to pay his ex-wife £612,000 every year until 2016. I want to start up a 'Just Giving' page (or similar) so that people can donate a tiny amount so he can focus on decent work/writing or just retire. I know he's not BADLY off compared with most of us, but I just hate to see him like this. He is a comedy genius, who, sadly made some marital errors, but can't we all pull together and pay off his ex-wife?!

was it in an hotel in torquay hc?
Certainly not, I can think of far more deserving causes, people down on their luck, if I had any money to spare.

If you want to start a just giving cause give it to the real needy, there are plenty of starving children in the world.......or failing that I've had my eye on a new little run around for the mrs! I wouldnt object to much if you wanted to donate to that!
He is still capable of supporting himself, if he has to work to pay his ex wife then that is his look out. He should count himself lucky that he is still able to work and is in demand, many people his age are living on the breadline.

Sorry no, my money has better uses.
scarlett,,,,,,,are you the ' new wife ' ?
He selling 100 of his paintings and raising half a million pounds, and you want to start a fund for him!! as they say on dragons den, "count me out"
I don't think that the judge or whoever it was would have awarded the ex Mrs Cleese £612,000 a year until 2016 if John Cleese couldn't afford it imo.
This would make a great Monty Python sketch.
Ah yes, The Ministry Of Silly Payments springs to mind.
assuming you are serious - how do you think he'd feel knowing he'd become a charity case?
that people were donating fivers to 'help' him?
and do you honestly think it would raise anywhere near enough to even make a dent in this?

he'd be utterly horrified and likely would not accept it.
he is working to pay his debt - just like everybody else.

as you said he is a comedy genius... why do you assume that just because he is 74 he cannot still work?
he will think of something - he is still the most famous and sought after python so im sure someone will snap him up.

terrible idea
